Marriage Requirements

Each person must mail or drop off the following documents:

 

Photocopy of valid passport .

  • Original long format birth certificate.

Note : If you are getting married at a destination wedding venue and were born outside of Canada, you must first certify your Birth Certificate at the country's Consulate or Embassy in Canada before submitting it for legalization.

Important Note : If you are getting married at/by the local Vital Records Office that is not a destination wedding venue and you were born outside of Canada and your country of birth is part of the Apostille Convention, your Birth Certificate must be Apostille abroad or if your country of birth is not part of the Apostille Convention but has a Consulate of the Dominican Republic, the Birth Certificate must be legalized at that Consulate or if there is no Consulate of the Dominican Republic within that country , then you can certify it in the country. Embassy or Consulate here in Canada and then legalize it in our office.

 

  • Original Single State Statutory Statement (A sample of a Single State Statutory Statement is attached.)

Note : If mailed, the Single Status Legal Declaration must be notarized. If in person, the declaration (the bride and groom) can sign the Single Status Legal Declaration in our presence and avoid going to a notary public; The Single Status Legal Declaration must be completed before arriving at our Consulate.

  • If previously married (divorced or widowed), original divorce certificate or long-term death certificate.

Note : Apply the same legalization requirements as the Birth Certificate. And if the bride is to be divorced or widowed, by law she must wait ten (10) months before remarrying.

 

Passport : Required for identification purposes only.

 

The birth certificate , single status legal declaration, divorce certificate, and death certificate require Spanish translation and legalization by a Dominican Republic consulate or embassy within your jurisdiction.

 

Your documents will be ready within 3-5 business days.

 

Processing fees:

Legalization: USD$100.00 per document.

Translations: USD$40.00 per document.

 

Payment Methods:

If it is in cash only in US dollars ( USD ), if it is by money order (Check Money Order) it must be made out to the Dominican Republic Consulate.

 

NOTE : WHEN MAILING YOUR DOCUMENTS, PLEASE INCLUDE A SELF-DESCRIBED PREPAID ENVELOPE AND PHONE NUMBER.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – Please note that the Single Status Statutory Declaration form must be completed in a digital letter in the same Word file and must not be handwritten. Only your signature must be handwritten.

(Everyone  documents of Canadian origin that will be used in the Dominican Republic must first be passed through Global Affairs Canada,  https://www.international.gc.ca/global-affairs-affaires-mondiales/home-accueil.aspx?lang=eng , or to the offices of Official Document Services at 222 Jarvis Street West, downtown Toronto, and then to our offices to be legalized).
